1 In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, Nebuchadnezzar had dreams; his spirit was troubled, and his sleep left him.2 Then the king commanded that the magicians, the enchanters, the sorcerers, and the Chaldeans be summoned to tell the king his dreams. So they came in and stood before the king.3 And the king said to them, “I had a dream, and my spirit is troubled to know the dream.”4 Then the Chaldeans said to the king in Aramaic, “O king, live forever! Tell your servants the dream, and we will show the interpretation.”5 The king answered and said to the Chaldeans, “The word from me is firm: if you do not make known to me the dream and its interpretation, you shall be torn limb from limb, and your houses shall be laid in ruins.6 But if you show the dream and its interpretation, you shall receive from me gifts and rewards and great honor. Therefore show me the dream and its interpretation.”7 They answered a second time and said, “Let the king tell his servants the dream, and we will show its interpretation.”8 The king answered and said, “I know with certainty that you are trying to gain time, because you see that the word from me is firm—9 if you do not make the dream known to me, there is but one sentence for you. You have agreed to speak lying and corrupt words before me till the times change. Therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that you can show me its interpretation.”10 The Chaldeans answered the king and said, “There is not a man on earth who can meet the king's demand, for no great and powerful king has asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or Chaldean.11 The thing that the king asks is difficult, and no one can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.”12 Because of this the king was angry and very furious, and commanded that all the wise men of Babylon be destroyed.13 So the decree went out, and the wise men were about to be killed; and they sought Daniel and his companions, to kill them.14 Then Daniel replied with prudence and discretion to Arioch, the captain of the king's guard, who had gone out to kill the wise men of Babylon.15 He declared to Arioch, the king's captain, “Why is the decree of the king so urgent?” Then Arioch made the matter known to Daniel.16 And Daniel went in and requested the king to appoint him a time, that he might show the interpretation to the king.17 Then Daniel went to his house and made the matter known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions,18 and told them to seek mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his companions might not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.19 Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might.21 He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;22 he reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what is in the darkness, and the light dwells with him.23 To you, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, for you have given me wisdom and might, and have now made known to me what we asked of you, for you have made known to us the king's matter.”24 Therefore Daniel went in to Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon. He went and said thus to him: “Do not destroy the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show the king the interpretation.”25 Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste and said thus to him: “I have found among the exiles from Judah a man who will make known to the king the interpretation.”26 The king declared to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, “Are you able to make known to me the dream that I have seen and its interpretation?”27 Daniel answered the king and said, “No wise men, enchanters, magicians, or astrologers can show to the king the mystery that the king has asked,28 but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will be in the latter days. Your dream and the visions of your head as you lay in bed are these:29 To you, O king, as you lay in bed came thoughts of what would be after this, and he who reveals mysteries made known to you what is to be.30 But as for me, this mystery has been revealed to me, not because of any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your mind.31 “You saw, O king, and behold, a great image. This image, mighty and of exceeding brightness, stood before you, and its appearance was frightening.32 The head of this image was of fine gold, its chest and arms of silver, its middle and thighs of bronze,33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.34 As you looked, a stone was cut out by no human hand, and it struck the image on its feet of iron and clay, and broke them in pieces.35 Then the iron, the clay, the bronze, the silver, and the gold, all together were broken in pieces, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing floors; and the wind carried them away, so that not a trace of them could be found. But the stone that struck the image became a great mountain and filled the whole earth.36 “This was the dream. Now we will tell the king its interpretation.37 You, O king, the king of kings, to whom the God of heaven has given the kingdom, the power, and the might, and the glory,38 and into whose hand he has given, wherever they dwell, the children of man, the beasts of the field, and the birds of the heavens, making you rule over them all—you are the head of gold.39 Another kingdom inferior to you shall arise after you, and yet a third kingdom of bronze, which shall rule over all the earth.40 And there shall be a fourth kingdom, strong as iron, because iron breaks to pieces and shatters all things. And like iron that crushes, it shall break and crush all these.41 And as you saw the feet and toes, partly of potter's clay and partly of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom, but some of the firmness of iron shall be in it, just as you saw iron mixed with the soft clay.42 And as the toes of the feet were partly iron and partly clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong and partly brittle.43 As you saw the iron mixed with soft clay, so they will mix with one another in marriage, but they will not hold together, just as iron does not mix with clay.44 And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever,45 just as you saw that a stone was cut from a mountain by no human hand, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold. A great God has made known to the king what shall be after this. The dream is certain, and its interpretation sure.”46 Then King Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face and paid homage to Daniel, and commanded that an offering and incense be offered up to him.47 The king answered and said to Daniel, “Truly, your God is God of gods and Lord of kings, and a revealer of mysteries, for you have been able to reveal this mystery.”48 Then the king gave Daniel high honors and many great gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon and chief prefect over all the wise men of Babylon.49 Daniel made a request of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the affairs of the province of Babylon. But Daniel remained at the king's court.
Daniel 7
1 In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. Then he wrote down the dream and told the sum of the matter.2 Daniel declared, “I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.3 And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.4 The first was like a lion and had eagles' wings. Then as I looked its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and the mind of a man was given to it.5 And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear. It was raised up on one side. It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, ‘Arise, devour much flesh.’6 After this I looked, and behold, another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back. And the beast had four heads, and dominion was given to it.7 After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.8 I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.9 “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.10 A stream of fire issued and came out from before him; a thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him; the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened.11 “I looked then because of the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. And as I looked, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire.12 As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him.14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.15 “As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me.16 I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things.17 ‘These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth.18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever.’19 “Then I desired to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the rest, exceedingly terrifying, with its teeth of iron and claws of bronze, and which devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet,20 and about the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn that came up and before which three of them fell, the horn that had eyes and a mouth that spoke great things, and that seemed greater than its companions.21 As I looked, this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them,22 until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom.23 “Thus he said: ‘As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.24 As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them; he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.25 He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.26 But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away, to be consumed and destroyed to the end.27 And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; their kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey them.’28 “Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me, and my color changed, but I kept the matter in my heart.”

1 Viu-se grande sinal no céu: uma mulher vestida do sol com a lua debaixo dos pés e uma coroa de doze estrelas na cabeça.2 A mulher estava grávida e gritava com dores de parto, sofrendo tormentos para dar à luz.3 Viu-se, também, outro sinal no céu, e eis um dragão, grande, vermelho, com sete cabeças e dez chifres, e, nas cabeças, sete diademas.4 A sua cauda arrastou a terça parte das estrelas do céu, as quais lançou para a terra. E o dragão se deteve diante da mulher que estava para dar à luz, a fim de devorar o filho dela quando nascesse.5 Ela deu à luz um filho homem, que há de governar todas as nações com cetro de ferro. E o filho da mulher foi arrebatado para junto de Deus e do seu trono.6 A mulher, porém, fugiu para o deserto, onde Deus lhe havia preparado um lugar, para que nele a sustentem durante mil duzentos e sessenta dias.7 Então estourou a guerra no céu. Miguel e os seus anjos lutaram contra o dragão. Também o dragão e os seus anjos lutaram,8 mas não conseguiram sair vitoriosos e não havia mais lugar para eles no céu.9 E foi expulso o grande dragão, a antiga serpente, que se chama diabo e Satanás, o sedutor de todo o mundo. Ele foi atirado para a terra, e, com ele, os seus anjos.10 Então ouvi uma voz forte no céu, proclamando: “Agora veio a salvação, o poder, o reino do nosso Deus e a autoridade do seu Cristo, pois foi expulso o acusador de nossos irmãos, o mesmo que os acusa de dia e de noite diante do nosso Deus.11 Eles o venceram por causa do sangue do Cordeiro e por causa da palavra do testemunho que deram e, mesmo diante da morte, não amaram a própria vida.12 Por isso, alegrem-se, ó céus, e vocês que neles habitam. Ai da terra e do mar, pois o diabo desceu até vocês, cheio de fúria, sabendo que pouco tempo lhe resta.”13 Quando o dragão viu que tinha sido atirado para a terra, perseguiu a mulher que tinha dado à luz o filho homem.14 Mas foram dadas à mulher as duas asas da grande águia, para que voasse para o deserto, para o seu lugar, aí onde é sustentada durante um tempo, tempos e metade de um tempo, fora do alcance da serpente.15 Então, a serpente lançou da boca água como um rio atrás da mulher, a fim de fazer com que ela fosse arrastada pelas águas.16 A terra, porém, socorreu a mulher: abriu a sua boca e engoliu o rio que o dragão tinha lançado de sua boca.17 O dragão ficou irado com a mulher e foi travar guerra com o restante da descendência dela, ou seja, os que guardam os mandamentos de Deus e têm o testemunho de Jesus.18 E o dragão se pôs em pé sobre a areia do mar.

1 Vi emergir do mar uma besta que tinha dez chifres e sete cabeças, e, sobre os chifres, dez diademas, e, sobre as cabeças, nomes de blasfêmia.2 A besta que vi era semelhante a leopardo, com pés como de urso e boca como de leão. E o dragão deu à besta o seu poder, o seu trono e grande autoridade.3 Uma das cabeças da besta parecia ter sido golpeada de morte, mas essa ferida mortal foi curada. E toda a terra se maravilhou, seguindo a besta;4 e adoraram o dragão porque deu a sua autoridade à besta. Também adoraram a besta, dizendo: — Quem é semelhante à besta? Quem pode lutar contra ela?5 Foi-lhe dada uma boca que proferia arrogâncias e blasfêmias e foi-lhe dada autoridade para agir durante quarenta e dois meses.6 A besta abriu a boca em blasfêmias contra Deus, para lhe difamar o nome e difamar o tabernáculo, a saber, os que habitam no céu.7 Foi-lhe permitido, também, que lutasse contra os santos e os vencesse. Foi-lhe dada, ainda, autoridade sobre cada tribo, povo, língua e nação.8 E ela será adorada por todos os que habitam sobre a terra, aqueles que, desde a fundação do mundo, não tiveram os seus nomes escritos no Livro da Vida do Cordeiro que foi morto.9 Se alguém tem ouvidos, ouça.10 “Se alguém tiver de ir para o cativeiro, para o cativeiro irá. Se alguém tiver de ser morto pela espada, pela espada morto será.” Aqui está a perseverança e a fidelidade dos santos.11 Vi ainda outra besta emergir da terra. Tinha dois chifres, parecendo cordeiro, mas falava como dragão.12 Ela exerce toda a autoridade da primeira besta na sua presença e faz com que a terra e os seus habitantes adorem a primeira besta, cuja ferida mortal havia sido curada.13 Também opera grandes sinais, de maneira que até faz descer fogo do céu sobre a terra, diante de todas as pessoas.14 Seduz aqueles que habitam sobre a terra por causa dos sinais que lhe foi permitido realizar diante da besta, dizendo aos que habitam sobre a terra que façam uma imagem à besta, àquela que foi ferida à espada e sobreviveu.15 E lhe foi concedido poder para dar vida à imagem da besta, para que também a imagem da besta falasse e fizesse morrer todos os que não adorassem a imagem da besta.16 A todos, os pequenos e os grandes, os ricos e os pobres, os livres e os escravos, faz com que lhes seja dada certa marca na mão direita ou na testa,17 para que ninguém possa comprar ou vender, senão aquele que tem a marca, o nome da besta ou o número do seu nome.18 Aqui está a sabedoria. Aquele que tem entendimento calcule o número da besta, pois é número de ser humano. E esse número é seiscentos e sessenta e seis.

1 Um dos sete anjos que tinham as sete taças veio e falou comigo, dizendo: — Venha! Vou lhe mostrar o julgamento da grande prostituta que está sentada sobre muitas águas.2 Os reis da terra se prostituíram com ela, e os que habitam na terra se embriagaram com o vinho da sua prostituição.3 O anjo me transportou, no Espírito, a um deserto, e vi uma mulher montada numa besta escarlate, besta repleta de nomes de blasfêmia, com sete cabeças e dez chifres.4 A mulher estava vestida de púrpura e de escarlate, enfeitada com ouro, pedras preciosas e pérolas, tendo na mão um cálice de ouro transbordante de abominações e das imundícias da sua prostituição.5 Na sua testa estava escrito um nome, um mistério: “Babilônia, a Grande, a Mãe das Prostitutas e das Abominações da Terra”.6 Então vi a mulher embriagada com o sangue dos santos e com o sangue das testemunhas de Jesus. E, quando a vi, admirei-me com grande espanto.7 O anjo, porém, me disse: — Por que você ficou admirado? Vou lhe explicar o mistério da mulher e da besta que tem as sete cabeças e os dez chifres e que leva a mulher:8 a besta que você viu era e não é mais, e está para emergir do abismo, e caminha para a destruição. E aqueles que habitam sobre a terra, cujos nomes não foram escritos no Livro da Vida desde a fundação do mundo, se admirarão, vendo a besta que era e não é mais, mas tornará a aparecer.9 — Aqui está a mente que tem sabedoria: as sete cabeças são sete montes, nos quais a mulher está sentada. São também sete reis,10 dos quais cinco caíram, um existe e o outro ainda não chegou; e, quando chegar, tem de durar pouco tempo.11 E a besta, que era e não é mais, é também o oitavo rei, mas faz parte dos sete, e caminha para a destruição.12 — Os dez chifres que você viu são dez reis, que ainda não receberam reino, mas recebem autoridade como reis, com a besta, durante uma hora.13 Estes têm um mesmo propósito e oferecem à besta o poder e a autoridade que possuem.14 Lutarão contra o Cordeiro, e o Cordeiro os vencerá, pois é o Senhor dos senhores e o Rei dos reis; serão vencedores também os chamados, eleitos e fiéis que estão com o Cordeiro.15 O anjo disse ainda: — As águas que você viu, onde a prostituta está sentada, são povos, multidões, nações e línguas.16 Os dez chifres que você viu e a besta, esses odiarão a prostituta. Eles a deixarão devastada e nua, comerão as carnes dela, e a queimarão no fogo.17 Porque Deus incutiu no coração deles que realizem o seu propósito, executem-no de comum acordo e deem à besta o reino que possuem, até que se cumpram as palavras de Deus.18 — A mulher que você viu é a grande cidade que domina sobre os reis da terra.
