15 Simão Pedro e outro discípulo seguiam Jesus. Esse discípulo era conhecido do sumo sacerdote e, por isso, conseguiu entrar no pátio da casa deste com Jesus.16 Pedro, porém, ficou de fora, junto à porta. O outro discípulo, que era conhecido do sumo sacerdote, saiu, falou com a encarregada da porta e levou Pedro para dentro.17 Então a empregada, encarregada da porta, perguntou a Pedro: — Você também não é um dos discípulos desse homem? Ele respondeu: — Não, não sou.18 Os servos e os guardas estavam ali, tendo acendido uma fogueira por causa do frio, e se aqueciam. Pedro estava no meio deles, aquecendo-se também.

25 Simão Pedro estava em pé, aquecendo-se. Então lhe perguntaram: — Você também não é um dos discípulos dele? Ele negou e disse: — Não, não sou.26 Um dos servos do sumo sacerdote, parente daquele a quem Pedro tinha decepado a orelha, perguntou: — Não é verdade que eu vi você no jardim com ele?27 De novo, Pedro negou. E no mesmo instante o galo cantou.

54 Then they seized him and led him away, bringing him into the high priest's house, and Peter was following at a distance.55 And when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat down together, Peter sat down among them.56 Then a servant girl, seeing him as he sat in the light and looking closely at him, said, “This man also was with him.”57 But he denied it, saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”58 And a little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.” But Peter said, “Man, I am not.”59 And after an interval of about an hour still another insisted, saying, “Certainly this man also was with him, for he too is a Galilean.”60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” And immediately, while he was still speaking, the rooster crowed.61 And the Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the saying of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny me three times.”62 And he went out and wept bitterly.

66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came,67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.”68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway and the rooster crowed.69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.”70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.”71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.”72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.

69 Pedro estava sentado fora no pátio. Uma empregada se aproximou e lhe disse: — Você também estava com Jesus, o galileu.70 Mas ele negou diante de todos e disse: — Não sei o que você está dizendo.71 Quando se dirigia para a porta, Pedro foi visto por outra empregada, que disse aos que estavam ali: — Este também estava com Jesus, o Nazareno.72 E ele negou outra vez, com juramento: — Não conheço esse homem.73 Pouco depois, aproximando-se os que estavam ali, disseram a Pedro: — Com certeza você também é um deles, porque o seu modo de falar o denuncia.74 Então ele começou a praguejar e a jurar: — Não conheço esse homem! E no mesmo instante o galo cantou.75 Então Pedro se lembrou da palavra que Jesus lhe tinha dito: “Antes que o galo cante, você me negará três vezes.” E Pedro, saindo dali, chorou amargamente.
